Writer’s Note: As a child living in Japan, and later in Canada, being Hapa made me feel at best, ‘different,’ and at worst, tormented. In Japan, I was bullied for being half-white; in Canada, I was teased for being half-Asian. It wasn’t until moving to Hawai’i that I felt like I fit in to any kind of community or environment.
